Harrisburg – Released today, PHC4’s Financial Analysis 2024 – Volume Two provides the opportunity to learn about the financial landscape of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) across the Commonwealth.
Volume Two gives insight into information surrounding outpatient visits, net patient revenue, operating income, and total net income. It is intended to provide stakeholders and patients with fact-based data in order to prioritize resources and make informed decisions.Barry D. Buckingham, PHC4’s Executive Director, stated “This type of financial insight is key to understanding how to allocate resources effectively. It supports legislators, health care providers, and consumers by providing timely and accurate data.” Buckingham went on to explain, “Having these resources is a valuable source of support for stakeholders, ensuring their ability to keep a pulse on the financial wellness of health care facilities.”
Within Volume Two, one will find noteworthy information. For example, this report shows that the net patient revenue amount Pennsylvania’s ASCs received for patient care increased 11.1% from $1.90 billion in Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) to $2.11 billion in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24). When considering the margins of Pennsylvania’s ASCs, Volume Two reports the statewide operating margin realized by the ASCs increased 5.21 percentage points, from 24.31% in FY23 to 29.52% in FY24. The report also shows the statewide total margin realized by the ASCs increased 5.72 percentage points, from 23.63% in FY23 to 29.35% in FY24.
Volume Two is the second volume of a three-part series of financial reports published annually by PHC4. Financial Analysis 2024 – Volume One, released in July, displays financial information from all Pennsylvania General Acute Care (GAC) hospitals. Volume Three, which captures financial data pertaining to non-GAC hospitalsin Pennsylvania, will be published in the last quarter of 2025. Publishing this set of reports annually supports capturing the current financial landscape in Pennsylvania’s health care facilities, as well as tracking significant statistics such as change over time.
PHC4 is an independent council formed under Pennsylvania statute (Act 89 of 1986, as amended by Act 15 of 2020) in order to address rapidly growing health care costs. PHC4 continues to produce comparative information about the most efficient and effective health care to individual consumers and group purchasers of health services. In addition, PHC4 produces information used to identify opportunities to contain costs and improve the quality of care delivered.
