Harrisburg – The Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4)’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) has a new chair, Edmund A. Pribitkin, MD, MBA, FACS, the chief physician executive and a professor of otolaryngology – head and neck surgery, at Jefferson Health.
Following the passing of the gavel ceremony during PHC4’s recent Transparency in Health Care event, Dr. Pribitkin successfully led his first TAG meeting, succeeding longtime chair and population health pioneer, David B. Nash, MD, MBA. Barry D. Buckingham, PHC4’s Executive Director, said, “Dr. Pribitkin came highly recommended for the role and for good reason. For more than three decades he has served, published, and provided expertise in countless medical communities. We look forward to continuing our legacy of trusted reporting under his guidance.” Buckingham went on to explain that TAG is an integral component of the complex system of oversight that governs PHC4’s work.
This multidisciplinary group brings together professionals like physicians, biostatisticians, and health services researchers to respond to issues related to research methodology, statistical expertise, and risk-adjustment methods. They offer expert opinions, contribute to methodological advancements, and ensure our reports remain relevant and on the leading edge of health care information. TAG examines the reporting components within their specified areas of discipline, provide feedback and direction to staff, and offer recommendations to PHC4’s full Council, which then leads to a final directive. This level of oversight and balanced insight from the depth of professional entities is what allows PHC4 reporting to remain a transparent, trusted source of health care data.
PHC4 is an independent council formed under Pennsylvania statute (Act 89 of 1986, as amended by Act 15 of 2020) in order to address rapidly growing health care costs. PHC4 continues to produce comparative information about the most efficient and effective health care to individual consumers and group purchasers of health services. In addition, PHC4 produces information used to identify opportunities to contain costs and improve the quality of care delivered.
