For the first time in almost 20 years, PHC4 had the opportunity to support a summer intern! Meet Alan Mburu Kagiri, a Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy student who brought valuable tools and a wonderful brilliance to the Special Projects team this summer. His work contributed to PHC4’s three-year study of non-compete agreements in health care in PA, mandated by PA Act 74 of 2024. Mburu built a thematic analysis model using natural language processing (NLP) that automated the ingestion and analysis of public comments submitted to PHC4. Additionally, he aggregated and analyzed 4,000+ civil lawsuits related to health care contract disputes across the Commonwealth. Find more about the work of PHC4 HERE.
